A Case of mumps meningoencephalitis

Abstract

|
A twenty eight years old woman was admitted because of headache, drowsy mental state, nuchal pain and swelling of the parotid glands. Physical examination revealed positive Kernig¢¥s sign and swelling of the both parotid glands. In laboratory examination, cerebrospinal fluid findings showed following data outlook, clear pressure, 285mmH20; sugar, 54 mg/cu. mm; protein, 139 mg%; pleocytes 265/cu. Mm (lymphocytes, 91%). The patient was treated with cortisone 100 mg/ day for 5 days. From the third day of hospitalization cerebrospinal fluid findings and general conditions were considerably improved. On fifth day, swelling of parotid glands and the other symptoms were relieved, and on 15th day she was discharged without any sequella.
